Colonel Bryan Denny Social Media needs to take on more responsibility for this breeding ground than they already have, not just for the sake of the victims, but for the sake of our security, and Military whose job is to protect us. Scammers, especially Military Romance Scammers are all over social media networks.
When this law was put into place 20 years ago there was little to no thought of the extreme type of crimes that could and or would be posted onto the social media platforms.
This law gives social media a "get out of jail free" card, in other words, they are not held responsible for anything posted to their site by their own consumers.
The Legislative Director felt without a doubt, letters would be a great way to show support.
He also gave the suggestion of organization support (in this case the Anti-scam groups online) letters.
The accounts were all found under the name “Yahoo Boys”.
The Legislative Director looked at the accounts as we were on the phone and expressed, with concern, how the crimes are “open” for all to see.
We have collected victim letters in the past which were presented at previous congressional meetings, along with anti-scam group letters.
We have kept them all and plan to resubmit once the Congressman’s office requests them. My pictures have been widely used by scammers on the social & dating sites for years.
At the bottom of each page is the Comment Section where you can post any comments, thoughts, suggestions or ideas you may have. According to the Legislative Director they did receive an answer back from Facebook on what they are doing and have done (a few days later than requested), however at this time they have yet to go over the response with the Congressman due to being out of the office on business.
A date of August 14, 2019 was given as a requested date of response by Zuckerberg.
Representative Kinzinger sent a letter on July 31, 2019 to Facebook`s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, requesting information on what exactly his company was doing to prevent the fake accounts upon their platforms.
